Recent Winners

In 2026, Mesón Café de Segundo took the professional jury’s top prize at the 16th Semana da Tortilla. It was the second time the team had won, after their first victory in 2024. Bar O Rabel came second, and Adega Lastras finished third. Adega Lastras had already won the jury’s title in 2025. So the same few kitchens keep fighting for the crown.

The public gets a say too, and the crowd favourite is often different. This year, visitors and locals voted Bar Galicia their top tortilla. That is not a surprise, because Bar Galicia won the popular vote four years running, from 2020 to 2023. It also took the jury prize in 2021 and 2022.

Meanwhile, the home cooks have their own contest. Jorge Río Cortés won best homemade tortilla in 2026, his third title. Also, Pepa Miranda of Casa Miranda, a many-time champion, led the homemade jury and announced her retirement from competing. So the festival is changing, but the runny, creamy Betanzos tortilla stays just as good.

Visit the Festival

Getting to Betanzos is easy, and it’s worth planning ahead for the Semana da Tortilla. The festival runs in October and draws plenty of hungry visitors. First, think about flying. The nearest airport is A Coruña Airport, which sits about 18 km away. Alternatively, you can land at Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport, which has more connections. Either way, you can finish the trip by train, bus or car. Check flights and Buy Tickets with Booking.com.

The train is a relaxed option. Direct trains run from A Coruña to Betanzos in around 30 minutes. Betanzos has two stations, Betanzos-Cidade and Betanzos-Infesta, so check which one your ticket uses. Trains also link the town with Ferrol. Services start early and run until late evening, so you can enjoy a long tortilla crawl and still get home. Check Train Schedules and Buy Tickets on Omio.

The bus is even cheaper. Services leave A Coruña regularly, and the journey takes roughly 25 to 45 minutes. As a result, it works well if you want a quick, low-cost trip. During the festival, buses can fill up at busy times, so book your seat early. Check Bus Schedules and Buy Tickets on Omio.

Driving gives you the most freedom, especially if you want to explore Galicia afterwards. The A-6 passes the southern edge of Betanzos, and the AP-9 passes to the north. However, the old town gets busy on festival weekends, so arrive early and expect a short walk. If you need wheels, you can pick up a rental at the airport. Hire a car with Discovercars.
