Basque Country
The Basque Country sits in Spains north with its coastline on the Bay of Biscay. It borders France in the east, Cantabria in the west, Navarra to the south-east and Rioja in the south. It has a population of just over two million people.
Its most famous city is probably San Sebastian or Donostia-San Sebastián. It is a must-see destination for foodies from around the world.

Its capital is Vitoria-Gasteiz which has a population of about 250,000. Its largest city by population is Bilbao which has around 350,000 people living there. Bilbao was once an ugly industrial city but has grown into a vibrant exciting place to be. Bilbao is home to the Guggenheim Museum.
The Basque Country has a beautiful coastline with many amazing beaches and seaside towns. The Pyrenees to the east provide picturesque mountain landscapes that are incredibly beautiful.

Bilbao has flights from across Spain with Vuelling and also with other airlines from across Europe. Driving time from Madrid to Bilbao is about 4 hours. The train trip will take about 4 hours 30 minutes.
